Thanks for visiting Bass Pickups Online!
Replacing your current pickups, in our opinion, has a more profound effect on an instrument’s tone than any other modification (short of changing the neck or body). Our goal is to provide reviews for as many pickups as we can. We provide reviews based on the experience of our team of reviewers as well as reviews and thoughts submitted by players and techs.
How is the ‘Low Down’ section created?
We spent many hours interviewing the founder of Best Bass Gear, LLC – Master Luthier Brian Ristola. Brian began building instruments in the late ’90s and started Best Bass Gear, LLC in 2003 to provide a bass-centric place to get pickups, electronics and hardware. His experience as a builder and retailer allowed him to test and work with an extremely vast array of pickups…and he actually did test, play and install them, not just sell them! Additionally, he spent thousands of hours talking with players and techs who would relate their experience with various pickups, giving additional insights, anecdotes and opinions.
So MANY things go into the sound of a bass…wood, strings, player technique, PICKUPS…etc. Pickups can sound differently in one bass vs. another bass. One player’s experience is different from another’s. That being said, the goal of this site is to give you some quality general parameters and thoughts to help you find a great pickup for your bass and you
If you would like to submit your thoughts on a particular pickup on the website, please do so in the comments section of the site and we will add it into the database.
If you are in the market to purchase one of the pickups discussed on the site, please consider using our links that are mentioned in the pickup listing. The small commissions that we receive from these sales go towards the cost of maintaining the website.
